Hollister Hills SVRA
Hollister Hills State Vehicular Recreation Area is a 6,685-acre California State Parks OHV facility in the Diablo Range foothills south of Hollister in San Benito County: the dominant public-land OHV destination for the San Francisco Bay Area, Silicon Valley, and Central Coast markets, approximately 90 miles south of San Francisco and 50 miles south of San Jose. The Diablo Range foothills terrain is characterized by the blue oak savanna and grassland that covers the drier interior valleys of coastal California: open grassland on the ridgelines and south-facing slopes, denser oak woodland in the protected north-facing hollows and creek drainages, and the mix of soft loam, hardpan, and serpentine rock that gives Hollister Hills trail surfaces their variable traction character. The approximately 100 miles of trail at Hollister Hills include everything from beginner-accessible loop roads on the lower ranch land to technical single-track hillclimbs and the expert rock crawling in the dedicated 4x4 area, one of the more complete technical challenge zones in the California SVRA system. ATVs, dirt bikes, UTVs, and full-size 4x4 trucks are all permitted on appropriate designated sections. California green sticker registration is required for all OHV machines. The SVRA operates a campground with hookups and primitive sites; day-use fee applies at the entrance station.
